Sorry for the crappy pictures. But it’s mine! I haven’t chosen a name, but its theme song is obviously Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like a Hole.” Even though it’s not exactly fully black; it’s black paint with brown metallic flakes which are difficult to see and which make touch-up pens worthless....

But anyway, yeah, I love it! It’s, unfortunately, just a base model with an engine so small I could fit an 8-year-old child between it and the hood, but it’s still putting out 130ish horses and getting 30ish MPG, so it’s a huge improvement over the Escort. (which is going to be fixed up and then sold to either my sister or my girlfriend, whenever one of them finally gets around to getting their license.)

My plans are to wait out the factory warranty (two more years or 25,000 more miles) and then replace these ugly hubcaps, possibly drop it an inch or two, and then maybe get a vinyl wrap. It looks nice in black, but look at my username. I need colors, damn it! I most likely won’t upgrade the engine ever, because I have a 10-year powertrain warranty from the dealer and I’d rather not void it. If it lasts me that long, though, I might do something nice for it.

But anyway.... My only complaint is that it’s hard to coast with the 6-speed automatic; it downshifts pretty much immediately after letting off the gas. I’m sure I’ll get used to it, though. It’s apparently very common for new Soul owners to think something is wrong with it because of that.

Also, I realize I could just look it up, but I have a theory that “active eco” mode is just a fancy word for overdrive. I can’t feel any difference in city driving, and I haven’t taken it above 65 yet.

I had a base Soul with the 1.6/6m for 3 years/60k miles.

is yours a ‘12 or ‘13?

Active Eco should actually change shift patterns and stuff. In the 14+ it includes stop/start on the 2.0.

*edit*

Also, it’s got big wheel wells and 5x114.3 bolt pattern so your options for alloys are endless. I wound up getting some take-offs from a Kia dealer for mine but 94-98 Cobra wheels will fit perfectly if you get a hub ring. Apparently the offset isn’t too far to make them work either.

WOOO! congrats on the new ride.
I would suggest not selling the escort to the girlfriend unless you just want that headache...actually let’s call it a migraine.
Also, according to the kia forums you’ve got the beauty of a 5 x 114.3 lug pattern which pretty much means you have all the options for wheels. Go check the craigslist, loads of options for hella cheap! do it do it do it

Kia Soul is freaking awesome! Ive had week long rentals of both engines and didnt have issues with either. I just cant understand how the freaking Soul has the best steering of any Kia model and most aggressive throttle and transmission response?! Congratulations on a great pick!

Just know that switching to wider tires on a FWD car not making a ton of torque will hurt your acceleration pretty noticeably but youll get the same amount back in handling. Just putting that out there.

Mine’s a ‘13, yeah.

And that’s pretty cool about eco mode, then. I’ll have to see if I can beat it with the pseudo-manual shifting. :D

Head like a hole

Black Kia Soul

I’d rather not drive in it though

Only Soul I’ve ever driven was a rental spec one, but not bad for a rental at all, felt like a well put together little car. Except the steering wheel, which was an awful textured hard plastic deal, but it’s easy to imagine that just being a rental “feature”.

Nah, the wheel is kind of weird on mine too. I don’t mind it, though. It’s so much better than the sticky vinyl in a lot of cars.

Also changing the wheels won’t void your warranty.

I was actually looking at those! If they came in 17" at around the same price, I’d probably go for it. There’s something about brightly-colored wheels that looks off when they’re too small.

After I lower it, for sure! It has a rollover warning on the visor, though, so maybe not before then.

I didn’t look closely but I too am surprised that there is no 17" option. Maybe they are sold out?

Definitely sold out, I’d bet.
